Description

This year marked the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, the greatest and most recognised British writer of all time. In celebration of his work the royal mint issued three new commemorative two pound coins themed around his most famous tales. Designed by John Bergdahl, the third and final coin represents tragedy and features a rose flower and skull. Around the outer ring of the coin the inscription reads 'WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2016'. Jody Clarks’ portrait of Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse.
