Description

The 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings was celebrated in 2016 with the release of a new commemorative Fifty Pence Coin. Designed by John Bergdahl, the reverse side features a figure of Harold II defeated by an arrow in the eye, reminiscent of the Bayern Tapestry. The inscription ‘BATTLE OF HASTINGS’ appears above the figure with the dates ‘1066’ and ‘2016’ below. Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse.
